Meeting Focuses on Africa's Genetic Resources

DAR ES SALAAM (Aug. 18) XINHUA - A symposium on natural products starts here today to discuss genetic resources in the continent.
The five-day symposium is organized by the Natural Products Research Network for Eastern and Central Africa (NAPRECA).
A NAPRECA newsletter said that the symposium is to focus on "research and development in utilization of Africa's genetic resources for the pharmaceutical and agricultural industries involving botany, pharmacology and environment".
The objectives of the symposium are to bring together and foster interaction among scientists involved in multi-disciplinary research in natural products.
Most of the participants to the symposium are researchers on natural products from Cameroun, Madagascar, Ethiopia, Kenya, Sudan, Botswana, Uganda, South Africa, Tanzania, India, Portugal and Canada.
There are also participants from Zimbabwe, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Germany, the United States, and Denmark. Enditem
